What the part does
These housings form the structural frame of handheld XRF (X-ray fluorescence) spectrometers and other portable analysers. The part must hold the detector, X-ray tube, control board and battery pack in precise alignment, while remaining light enough for one-handed field use.

Critical fits are checked against the drawing on the CMM. Because the detector pocket is a functional fit, 100% dimensional inspection is carried out on the bore diameter and position of the mounting pattern before shipment.

Why CNC machining rather than die casting for spectrometer housings?
CNC machining removes material from a solid billet, so there is no draft angle, wall thickness can be held consistently, and internal threads and undercuts are cut directly. Die casting is faster at very high volume but requires draft and thicker walls, which adds weight to a handheld device.
What finish is normally used on aluminium analyser housings?
Clear or dyed Type II anodising is typical. It improves surface hardness and corrosion resistance without affecting dimensional tolerances significantly. Hard anodising is used if the device is exposed to abrasive environments.
